One of Football’s Wildest Finishes

This is the end of a Division III football game between Trinity and Milsap. I have never seen that many laterals. It is truly amazing. Check it out…

Grudem Endorses Romney

Election time is upon us. It is time to get behind the person we believe is going to be best suited to run this country. I will reserve my thoughts and political opinions for another time. However, Wayne Grudem has written a thought provoking article endorsing Republican Mitt Romney and encouraging other evangelicals to consider doing the same. Initially I was surprised by hearing Grudem’s support for Romney. However, after reading his article I believe Grudem makes a great case for his decision. He not only lays out a solid argument for supporting Romney but he also makes some good points about how we should decide on supporting any candidate as an evangelical Christian. I think we would all do well to read and consider Grudem’s words.

Trueman & The German Reformation

worms.jpgAt this year’s Reformation Heritage Conference, Carl Trueman recently gave a series of lectures and sermons detailing the German Reformation and addressing the role of tradition and history within the life of the believer. He first discussed the heart of the German Reformation along with its key figure, Martin Luther. His characterization of Luther is quite informative and entertaining. Recalling one bit of history, Trueman tells the story of Luther’s cold response to the news that Ulrich Zwingli, leader of the Swiss Reformation, had been killed on the battlefield. Reformation history is Trueman’s bread and butter. His lectures are engaging and quite helpful in grasping a world that is not far removed from our own.

In the final three messages, Trueman dispells the false dichotomy between the bible and tradition. He talks about the faulty reasoning present in the argument that there is no place for tradition when it comes to the bible and christian living. Many people claim that all they need is the bible and that’s it. Forget about tradition or history. Yet they are fooling themselves by believing that tradition and history had nothing to do with the interpretation of Scripture that went into the translated bible they hold so dear. Trueman makes this point crystal clear.

The six messages are not only beneficial to the church historian or historical theologian but to every Christian who desires to live faithfully by the Word of God for the glory of God. It is a call to examine our past so that we might better engage the present. Listen to all six and be blessed.

Step Away From the Computer

Joe Thorn has written a nice article on unplugging from the internet, cell phones, and other forms of technology. Technology is a wonderful thing. We have experienced many grand advances due to technology. However, technology has its dangers. How much of our day is consumed with checking email through a computer or blackberry? How often do we check our blogs? And with the internet, information is only a click away. You can find practically anything and everything on the world wide web. However, endless information means endless net surfing which results in a lot of wasted time. I would encourage you to go read Joe’s article and then step away from the computer. Go have a meaningful conversation with someone. Or better yet, go buy a few discs and invite someone to go play disc golf with you. There is nothing better than a good conversation in the midst of a round of 18.
