Pray for the Chapman Family

As reported by the The Tennessean this morning:

Steven Curtis Chapman’s youngest child died Wednesday evening after being struck by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family’s Williamson County home.

Maria, one of the Christian singer’s six children, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital, which confirmed the death, according to Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The 5-year-old was hit by an SUV driven by her teenage brother, she said. Police did not give the driver’s name.

The teen was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser down the driveway of the rural home about 5:30 p.m. and several children were playing in the area, McPherson said. He did not see Maria in the driveway before the vehicle struck her, she said.

“It appears to be a terrible accident,” McPherson said

Please commit to praying for the Chapman family during this very difficult time.

Challies May Giveaway

May Giveaway

This morning Tim Challies released the details of the May giveaway and again it’s a good one. The winner of this month’s contest wins a $200 gift certificate to Monergism bookstore. If you are unfamiliar with Monergism then head over to their website right now and browse through their great selection of books. They are one of the best places online to find solid, God honoring books. You’ll find everything from the Puritans to Charles Spurgeon to John Piper. There are prizes for second and third place as well. Here’s how it all breaks down:

First prize: $200 gift certificate for Monergism Books and a Five Solas t-shirt.

Second prize: $75 gift certificate for Monergism Books and a Five Solas t-shirt.

Third Prize: $35 gift certificate for Monergism Books and a Five Solas t-shirt.

And a Five Solas t-shirt? Classic. My old friends from Ball St. would be all over this contest. I can still picture their John Calvin and John Knox t-shirts (shout out to Milk and Adrian). So what are you waiting for?! Click on the banner above and sign up immediately. And when you do, use my referral number (71015). As always, when you sign up you’ll receive your own referral number. The more referrals you receive, the more chances you have to win. Good luck!

Chuck Norris for Vice President

It seems Chuck Norris has shifted his focus from endorsing candidates to joining one. Chuck recently laid out his argument for why he should be chosen as someone’s running mate in the upcoming presidential election. He does not discriminate against any one of the remaining candidates so his flexibility could be someone’s asset. Of course, so can his roundhouse kick. The question is…will you support Chuck?

The Monday Muse: Stimulus Check

The news that each of us would be receiving an economic stimulus check in the mail was music to my ears. At first glance it seems like free money. And since we had to pay the government during tax time, this seemed to even things out. Of course we must remember that nothing is free. We are receiving this money only after each of us have paid numerable taxes on the money we worked for. So it is almost like fools gold. In any case, like many people I began to think of how we might use this money. What is the wisest thing to do? Is it different for different people and different circumstances? Is there a best case scenario as it relates to Christians using this money?

John Piper says we should make much of Christ with this check by thinking of how we might help someone in need or fund a person’s ministry. Tim Challies turned to David Kotter, Executive Director of The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and a former economics teacher, for advice on how to think Christianly about the economic stimulus payments. So…

How should we think concerning the use of the economic stimulus check? Does it even matter?

I’m not asking anyone to share the specifics of their spending in regards to this money (though you are welcome to do so if it helps support your point). I simply want to strike up a little dialogue on whether or not we should be thoughtful in how we use this “extra” money.

Darth Vader Strikes Back

Darth Vader has reappeared with a vengeance. A Welshman dressed as Darth Vader attacked Master Jonba Hehol and Master Mormi Hehol, cousins and leaders of the Church of Jediism in Wales. Vader was missing his trusty light saber and had to employ the force by whacking them with a metal crutch. Lucky for us and unlucky for Vader, “his March attack was recorded on a video camera that the cousins had set up to film themselves in a light saber battle.” Classic. Can someone say You Tube?

Do you think churches should have regular evaluations of the worship gatherings? Why or why not?
