Radio Theatre: The Screwtape Letters

Focus on the Family is putting together an audio production of C.S. Lewis’ classic book, The Screwtape Letters. If you are not familiar with the book, you should hop over to Westminster Books and pick up a copy. It is the story of several “conversations” between an elder demon and his nephew. What Lewis reveals in this book is the nature of human beings. Yes, demons are real and working in ways we cannot perceive. But I believe one of the fundamental points of Lewis’ book is not to peak into the nature of demons but to reveal to us the types of snares and traps we walk into based on the nature of who we are. Simply put…this book is brilliant.

I don’t listen to a lot of audio books or productions (a habit I’m looking to change) so I’m not an expert on such things. However, this production looks to be extremely well done. Focus on the Family has cast Andy Serkis (the voice of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings Triology) as Screwtape, the elder demon. You can learn more by checking out the official website.

We are looking forward to listening as well! We have worn out our audio versions of the Chronicles of Narnia…also done by Focus’ Radio Theatre.

I had no idea they did radio theater until I came across this project. Do you know what other books they have produced? I’ll have to pick up Narnia when we get Screwtape.

Since you asked, I just looked into their other productions…wow. Lots of options. Some that peeked my interest, Bonhoeffer: The Cost of Freedom…also, Les Miserables…Amazing Grace too (Wilberforce, John Newton, and Olaudah Equiano).
Perhaps these will make for more enjoyable drives north. Great road trip material!
