Nasty Dunk By Ewing, Jr.

Check out Junior throwin’ down.

I don’t think his dad could have done anything like that even in his prime. Of course, Junior doesn’t have the baseline, turnaround, fadeaway jumper that his dad had either.

Choose Your Champ

7986024_36_1.jpgOn the heels of the Final Four, I want to know who you think will come out on top and why.

Who do I think will take it home? North Carolina. Kansas should have lost to Davidson and North Carolina has too much for Kansas to handle. Psycho T will have his typical double-double and UNC will win by 10. Memphis will come out on top against UCLA. The Bruins have escaped several games with shaky play but the athleticism of Memphis will be their undoing. Memphis by 8. In the final game, UNC puts the clamps down on Memphis as Hansbrough dominates Joey Dorsey inside. UNC by 6.

Gordon Going Pro

00t80072.gifReports have surfaced that Eric Gordon will soon announce he is leaving for the NBA. This comes as no big surprise for anyone who has been following college basketball this year. When Gordon initially came to IU, it was believed that he would be a “one and done” player for the Hoosiers. With Sampson “resigning,” Indiana tanking at the end of the year, D.J. White graduating, and the arrival of a new coach (Tom Crean), it is nearly a lock that Gordon is headed out of Bloomington.

Personally, I think he is making a mistake. Aside from my Hoosier bias, I don’t think he is ready for the NBA. Though he led the Big Ten in scoring at over 20 per game, he has several weak areas that will be exploited in the pro game. Gordon’s handles are suspect and his decision making is shaky both of which make him prone to turnovers. His jumper could use a little work as well. I think another year would help him grow and mature in these areas especially under the guidance of a coach like Crean who has had several excellent guards over the past few years at Marquette. However, you can’t blame the guy for wanting to move on after all he went through this year.

So…let’s all say goodbye to Eric Gordon. At least we were able to keep one of our best players in state for one year.

Hoosiers Snatch Crean From Marquette

indiana-banner.jpgThe Indiana basketball program has been experiencing a rapid downward spiral ever since the “resignation” of Kelvin Sampson. The Hoosiers lost four of their last seven games under Dan Dakich and were put out in the first round by Arkansas despite having one of the best combinations in D.J. White and Eric Gordon. Things haven’t gotten any better in the offseason. D.J. White and Lance Stemler are graduating seniors, Eric Gordon will announce his plans to go to NBA shortly, and Dakich recently kicked Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis off the team for skipping a mandatory meeting. Will the bleeding ever end? When will Hoosier basketball once again rise to prominence and contend for a national championship on a yearly basis? It has been too long.

Enter Tom Crean. It was confirmed today that Tom Crean has been hired as the next coach at Indiana. Considering Crean’s success at Marquette, I think this is an excellent move. Not only does Crean bring a track record of success, he also brings a measure to class and integrity to a program searching for answers and credibility. Will Ebanks still go elsewhere? Probably. Can Crean recruit? Look at some of his recent players such as Dominic James (an Indiana product) and D-Wade. How long will it be until Indiana challenges for another national championship? Who knows. However, hiring Tom Crean is certainly a step in the right direction.

The Monday Muse: NCAA Tournament

7921596_18_2.jpgI should seriously start calling this The Tuesday Muse. I have been a little busy lately so I haven’t been keeping up as faithfully with my posts. Annie and I are in the midst of making some big life decisions so pray that the Lord will give us guidance and discernment.

Ok…on to question of the week. Since NCAA bracketology is in full effect, I thought up a two part question dealing with this year’s tournament.

1. Who will be the 2008 NCAA Basketball Champion?

2. Who is this year’s sleeper team?

In Part 1, you have to make your case for who you think will take home the trophy. I don’t just want to know who but why. In Part 2, you need to give us the team that you think could make an unexpected run deep into the tournament. Like Part 1, you need to also give us the reason.

Alright, you have your questions. Now…state your case.
